2 letter this week!

Hey, How is it going? Things here are going really good we had a really good week. Bill Goldrick went through with his baptism! It was way cool there wasn't very many people there but it was still way cool. My companion and I were the witnesses, and his son did the baptising. I will send some picks of it. Stephano is still golden but his dad is kinda making things hard. One day he will decide that it is ok for Stephano to go to are church and the next day he will decide he doesen't want him to. Well transfer news came and I am staying here another transfer in Eldorado and I am getting someone named Elder Neibaur. All I know about him is that he has only been out 6 weeks and that he was trained in Sante Fe. I am pretty excited to stay in this ward, it is pretty cool. We just found another guy to teach this week his name is Scott and he lives in the same appartment complex as us. He actually came and found us and said he would like to hear what we have to say. We set up a appionment and he ditched us so we were think that he must not really be interested, but then he came and knocked on our door on Saturday and said he was sorry he missed the appoiment. He said he had time to talk to us right then so we taught him the restoration it went well. well I spent 320 dollars on my bike, it was pretty much the cheepest bike shop quallity bike there. Well tell everyone thanks for pitching in for that. That will be great, I really appreciate the support. Well not to much else going on so I guess we will talk to you later.

Rob's letter

Dear Family and Friends

Hey, How are things going? Things here are going good? To answer your question I have been here longer than my comp. I have been here for 4 months, and he has been here for about two and a half. My comp. doesn't like the city I guess, so he doesn't really like it here. I guess my comp. is just use to the reservation where it is a little more laid back. Here in Eldorado it is a lot of knocking doors and talking to a lot more people. On the reservation it is mostly less active work, and doing service for the Indians. We still do have a baptismal date set for Oct. 9th, and it is pretty solid. It is with that guy named Bill Goldrick I was telling you about, and he has already planned everything out. He has already knows who he wants to speak, and has been coming to church every Sunday. It is pretty exciting because he choose to be baptized on the last week of the transfer, so I will for sure be here for it. This week was kind of a slow week because my companion got hit by a car so we were on foot all week. Finally, my companion could got a new bike on Monday. On Thursday we had district meeting and it was raining so we got soaked even with our rain jackets on because it was a 45 min walk to district meeting. My suit got wet and everything. This is like their monsoon season from July to September. Who would have thought New Mexico had a monsoon season, but it rained pretty hard the streets were over flowing with water. Mostly during monsoon season here it will rain about 4 days a week for 15 min each day. The other day it rained for hours. They were saying that is was a record for most rain received in one day or something I don't know. On Friday we had this high school kid that is friends with the bishop's son that asked us to teach him the lessons, so we are teaching him right now. I am pretty excited about it. He came to church and seem to be pretty interested. Yesterday was temple day so we weren't able to email, so that's why I am today. Well that is about everything. Oh yeah, as far as the wife thing goes tell Kelsea to let me worry about that, and if she is worried about only having one sister in law tell her maybe they will institute plural marriage again. I do have a request, if you ever have time i have been craving peanut butter popcorn so the next time you send me a package if you could toss some in that would be great. Well got to go.

weekly mission news

hey how is everything going? My lds mail is not very good. I just barely got it to work and now it is almost time to go. It is frustrating. So I am going to have to make this short. Well it sounds like you guys had a good week things were good for me too. We got our investigator Bill with a baptismal date this week again but this time he is more serious about he promised us he wouldn't back out and he was excited to tell people at church that he was going to be baptized and he is planing on be baptized on October 9 so that will be way cool. we also will probably be baptizing those kids at the end of this transfer as well so that will be cool. This is probably one of the better weeks me and elder andrus have had since we have been together. Today we have a busy day planned. we are going to go bowling, shopping, play football, and then play basketball, so it will be really fun. I am pretty excited but hey I have got to go.

Monday's news

hey how is it going? How are things going in Lund. Is there anything new and exciting? It sounds like there is alot going on. Well I'm glad to hear that dad is better and everything is back on track. How is teaching school in Ely going mom? Well things for me are going good. Transfer was this week and I am still in Eldorado and I am still with Elder Andrus. I am starting to think that I am never going to leave Albuquerque. It is o.k. I like it here. It was just kind of a boring transfer news, same companion and everything. This week was kind of slower week. We had zone conference this week I think I told you about that. It was a really good zone conference. Elder C Scott Grow gave a sweet talk, it was way good. This week we got a referral from this guy back east somewhere and we went and contacted him when we were talking to him he had lots of doubts about our church and we told him to pray about it and he said he would. He is a member of a born again christian church and when we finished talking to him he prayed right there on his door step to find out if it is true and you could feel the spirit come as he was praying. After the prayer we just left to let the spirit work on him some more it was good. we are still working with Bill and a few other people so that is good. Today for p-day we are going to hangout with a bunch of the other elders in our district because a lot of them are leaving. A lot of them are heading out to the reservation. I want to go to the reservation. One of these transfers. I hear it is an interesting experience. well that is about everything that happened this week.

What a week!

Dear family and friends,

Hey, how is it going? It definitely sounds like you guy had an exciting week. I thought that I had a pretty exciting week but you guys got me beat. Let me know how thing are going. Well my week wasn't near as dramatic but it was a good week, me and Elder Andrus got 7 new investigators this week, that is way sweet. while tracting one day me and Elder Thatcher ran in to these Islamic people and the said week could come back so we went back there this week and they let us in and we talked about our beliefs for about an hour and there is like 5 or six people that live in this house and 4 of them sat in on the discussion so that was sweet, 4 new investigators in one shot and then we started teaching this one ladies grand kids her name is Virgina Yassy, she is an Indian lady if you couldn't tell by the last name Yassy, and her grand kids are not baptized. 3 of them are over 8 years old. We went back to talk to Bill's this week and he told us that he wants to finish the book of Mormon again before he is baptized. i don't know why he has already read it once and it is not like you're not aloud to read it a again after your baptized. He is just procrastinating, but we set a date with him for November and we are going to read with him every Wednsday. Just like that another transfer has gone by. This is the last week of the transfer and we also have a big zone conference coming tomorrow. I think I told you but Elder C. Scott Grow is coming to talk to us. it should be a really busy week. It is kind of funny though that Elder C. Scott Grow's name is a sentence. Well dad I hope you start gaining weight because when I come home and I weigh 230 lbs of solid muscle and I out weigh you by 80 lbs it might be kind of embarrassing. Just kidding. but I hope you do get better. Talk to you later.

rob's email

hey how is it going with you guys this week. so you all went to washington this week huh? sounds like you had a good time there, so angel came too? well cool let me know if anything new and exciting happens in lund. this week was a good week in eldorado we did a lot of knocking doors this which gets kinda boring after a while. we talk to a lot of people this week and none of them said we could come back which is kinda sad. as far as bill goldrick goes he pretty much backed out because he is a girl scout. we went and talk to him and had a awesome lesson the spirit was there and we talk about the importance of baptism. he knows that the church is true he has no problem accepting the doctrine and he has good member support his son and daughter- in-law are members. whats holding him backs is that he is scared of commitment. i think he sees how involved his son is in the church and is worried that he is going to have to dedicate a lot of time to church calling. he is like 80 years old and for some reason he thinks it will be easier to join later in life. what i think of is a talk one of the apostle gave i can't can't remember who gave it but it is called the 7 deadly harrosies(i know i spelled that wrong) but he talked about how you can't think that you will be able to accept the gospel in the next life when you have a testimony of it in this life. i feel that once you get a testimony that this church is true it is your obligation to act on that testimony. i tried to explain that to him as tactfully as possible but he is scared to commit. but this week was stake conference in the eldorado ward and they were reorganizing the stake presidency so that was kind of fun to watch. elder porter from the 70 came down and talk he gave a pretty good talk. on week 6 we are have a big zone conference where elder c. scott grow from the quorm of the 70 is coming down to talk to us so that should be pretty exciting. well i think that is about all that is going on this week. it is kind of weird to think that it is already week 5 of the transfer. i have almost been out 6 months time flies. well if you guys could it would be great if you would send my memory card back out to me and hey i would not be to upset if you sent some snacks out with it. well got to go talk to you later.

Rob's letter

hey how is it going? sorry i didn't email you yesterday but the place where we email was full so we had to biked all the way down to cnm (college of new mexico) to email but it was closed. we didn't get to email yesterday and so we had a little bit of time today so we decide we would just email really quick today so mom wouldn't freak out and think something happen to me. well i am doing pretty good, i am a little frustrated today cause everything is falling through. today our investigator bill goldrick called and cancelled his baptismal interview because he is starting to have doubts. that just makes me frustrated when everything is going perfect he is all ready to be baptized and then he chickens out. we are going over to teach bill tommorrow so hopefully we will be able to resolve his concerns. We were also scheuled to teach these kids that are staying with their grandparents for awhile. their parents aren't members but their grandparents want us to teach them. the parents ended up calling and saying they don't want their kids to be taught. i am going to just stop answering the phone cause it is almost always someone cancelling an appoinment. but other than that it was a pretty good week, we had 3 investigators show up at church this sunday which is more than i ever had in this area. one of the girls coming to church name was rebecca she is about kelsea's age her dad really doesn't want her to be baptized but this weekend was a daddy daughter campout and her and her dad went maybe we will be able to baptize her eventaully. but that is about all that happened this week well talk to you later. love elder reid

24th of July

hey how is everything going? everything is going pretty good here. so the 24th went well huh? well except the air conditioning at the church. well we really didn't do much for the 24th, there was a stake picnic but we didn't go because we didn't think that the district leader would let us go. then we find out the he actually went to the picnic. that was kind of lame but it was ok we had a good week anyway. this week we taught someone named bill goldrick, i think i told you about him before. he just got back from vacation, but before he left we gave him a soft baptismal commitment and when he came home last week we gave him a baptismal date and he accepted so i am pretty stoked about that. he will be getting baptized on the 21st of august. i also got my new companion this week he name is elder andrus, i think i probably already told you that but he is all right. he was a pretty sheltered kid growing up and doesn't know how to talk to people very well, so i have to do alot of the talk during teaching appointments. he is alright though, i figured out that if you are working hard and keeping focused you can get along with any companion you have. today we have a fun p-day lined up, we are going to go bowling with some other missionaries. there is a memeber who owns a bowling alley and lets us in for free, so that is pretty sweet. then we are going to come up to our area and play basketball. so that will be pretty fun, i haven't played a good game of basketball in a long time so i am pretty stoked. there is this guy named brother carey that is a member in our ward he is way cool he gives rides everywhere. well i gave him a call to give us a ride to the bike shop because my companion was getting his bike tuned. when i called him up he didn't sound the same as he normally does, he acted very defensive. then he just told how his son had shot someone 4 times about 3 or 4 days ago and how he had resorted back to drinking. he had just started getting active in the church again, he told me all about how his wife wants to get a divorce and how upset he was. i felt like i should give him a scripture to read so i gave him 2 nephi 4:27-35. he came over on sunday and talk to us and said how glad he was that i gave him that scripture to read. he is a really cool guy and i hope everything goes well for him. well i think that is about everything exciting going on this week. i sent you guys a letter with my memory card in it so if you could up load the pictures and send it back that would be great. well got to go thanks for everything and hope you guys have a good week.

Monday Monday

hey how is it going? things here are going good. so you got a new dog huh? i should have know you would name it marley, after just watching "marley and me" before i left. who picked out the name dad? or was it kelsea? well cool it is kinda sad not to be there this year for the 24th of july. they are having some kind of picnic here for the 24th but i am sure it won't be as cool as lunds celebration and i won't even get to go unless we have investigators going. but things are going good, we got transfer news the other day i am staying here in elderado and elder thatcher is going to los lunas. it should be good, my new companions name is elder andrus, i have heard that he isn't the easiest person to get along with but will see on tuesday i guess. but it is nice to be able to stay in this area it is just starting to pick up a little more and maybe i will get to see the fruits of my labors. we have one guy named paul bain and said he wasn't going to make the decision to get baptized until he finishes the book of mormon and he just finshed it sunday and two days before that we had a lesson on the plan of salvation with him. it went really well the spirit was way strong. his wife was there and she is a member and she bore her testimony of the plan of salvation and her conversion story it was a really good lesson. (members at the lessons make a big difference). but there is also another guy named bill goldrick that the missionaries have been teaching for like 2 years. at the beginning of the transfer we talked to him and resolved his concern and he said that he is ready to take that step towards baptism. he was on vacation for the last 3 week but he just got back and now we are going to give him a date. but other than that it was just a pretty ordinary week. my companion got sick on saturday so we didn't do anything that day. the bad part about staying is that i am stuck in a bike area for another transfer and everything is up hill from our apartment. well i hope you all have a good 24th of july let me know how it goes.
